Old History
Jeddah has important location on the Red Sea and it is next to Makkah . Muslim was crossing the deserts on camels along the Red Sea, or come to Jeddah on ships to continue their trip to Makkah for Hajj and Omrah,.
. The city used to have four main gates: Bab MAkkah in the east, Bab Al-Medinah in the north, Bab Al-Nabat in the west, and Bab Shareef in the south.

History
The importance of Jeddah was after opening the Suez Canal in 1869, when ships began to reach it from the south and north of the Red Sea.
The real development jump that the city made took place in 1957 when the late King Saud ordered the removal of the wall to embark on expanding the city eastwards, northwards and southwards and to change it into a modern city.
Jeddah has great changes and developments in the the streets and the the buildings; in water plants; and water, power and telephone networks; in the large number of parks, and hospitals, restaurants and hotels; and in the schools, modern universities, colleges and training centers.
Jeddah is a big city. There are a lot of banks, shopping centers and malls,. There are also traditional souks that attract tourists.

Mosques in Jeddah
Old Jeddah contained a few mosques in the city central area, such as Al-Mazloom, Al-Sham, the Grand Souk and Al-Nooriyyah. These mosques are Al-Shafi'ee Mosque, Okashah Mosque, Al-Mi'mar Mosque, Al Hanafi Mosque, Al-Pasha Mosque and Othman bin Affan Mosque.
On the other hand, there are hundreds of new mosques in the city become crowded with worshippers from every Muslim town of the earth at the daily five prayer times.
Parks in Jeddah
The Kingdom is not a only desert. There are lots of farming areas near almost every village and city
the Saudi government has built thousands of parks in the country, especially after the second half of the twentieth century.
In Jeddah alone, there are over 500 parks that beautify the city, improve the environment and climate, and provide recreation and entertainment to residents and families. You can see trees and flowers in almost all streets
Jeddah Zoo
The zoo is located at Kilo 10 area on Jeddah-Makkah road. It contains more than 1000 birds and animals belonging to 106 kinds and species. The zoo has a timetable for men, children, families and school children
