أ.د. سهير وسطاوي رئيس قطاع المكتبات – مكتبة الإسكندريةTitle: Science for Kids: The Role of the Library of Alexandria in Introducing Science to KidsAbstract:When the Library of Alexandria opened its doors, children (age 6-16) were on of its top priorities. This was clearly stated in the Library’s objectives statement as: “The Library aims to become an incubator for children talent”. To realize such a goal, it was quite imperative that the library practice a new and innovative approach in introducing science to children in a new format away from memorization of facts. Thus, the efforts began with establishing the Children’s Library, Young People’s Library, the Science Museum and the Alexploratorium. All these departments cooperate in order to offer the best possible services to this young generation. The presentation aims at sharing the new Library of Alexandria’s approach in simplifying sciences and basically make it fun; its role in helping the children develop an understanding of the value of science and enable them to explore the world of scientific knowledge through discussions, observation and questioning of scientific phenomenon; develop their ability to read and interpret the scientific material they read; practice the various methods of experimentation; learn how to describe results similarities and differences and how to make a simple statements about what the results show and how to recognize patterns and trends from results and graphs.The talk will describe these activities and show through a PowerPoint presentation a great deal of images for these activities.

دور مكتبة الأسكندرية في تقديم العلم إلى الأطفالالملخّص:عندما فتحت مكتبة الأسكندرية أبوابها،كان الأطفال (عمر 6-16) على رأس أولوياتها العليا. هذا ذكر بشكل واضح في بيان أهداف المكتبة ، حيث: “ تهدف المكتبة إلى أن تصبح حاضنة لموهبة الأطفال ”. لإدراك مثل هذا الهدف، كان من الضروري ممارسة المكتبة لنظرة جديدة وإبداعية في تقديم العلم إلى الأطفال ، وذلك في صيغة جديدة بعيدا عن إستظهار الحقائق. هكذا، بدأت الجهود بتأسيس مكتبة الأطفال، مكتبة الشباب، متحف العلم واليكسبلوراتوريوم.تتعاون كلّ هذه الأقسام لكي تعرض أفضل الخدمات الممكنة لهذا الجيل من الشباب. هذا التقديم يستهدف مشاركة مكتبة الأسكندرية الجديدة في تبسيط العلوم ويجعلها ممتعة أساسا؛و دورها في مساعدة الأطفال لتطوّير فهم قيمة العلم ويمكّنهم من إستكشاف عالم المعرفة العلمية من خلال المناقشات وملاحظة وإستجواب الظاهرة العلمية؛ كما تطوّر قدراتهم القراءية وترجمة المادّة العلمية ؛ كما تمارس الطرق المختلفة للتجريب؛ بتعلّم وصف التشابهات وإختلافات النتائج وكيفية إعطاء تصريحات بسيطة حول هذه النتائج وكيفية معرفة الأنماط والإتّجاهات من النتائج والرسوم البيانية.هذه الورقة تصف هذه النشاطات ، كما يقدم العرض المرئي المصاحب الكثير من الصور لهذه النشاطات.( ترجمة غير رسمية)
